The Things You Told Us Were Broken

Purchase order approvals removed, invoice tax rates that actually save, and a search box that stops fighting your keystrokes. Most of this release came straight from your own support tickets.

Most of This Release Came From You

Almost everything below started as a support request. "Remove PO approvals." "Creating new vendor button broken." "Search bar still wonky." "I need to see on quotes if a PO was generated." Those became the work.

That is the useful shape for a release like this one: not a new module to learn, but a list of things that were quietly wrong and now are not.

Purchase Order Approvals Are Gone

The approval workflow has been removed entirely. Submit for approval, Approve, Reject, Recall, the Pending Approval stat tile, and the approval history are all gone.

This is a removal, so it deserves an explanation. The approval step was never something you could deliberately turn on — there was no setting for it — yet for organizations created before a certain point it was switched on by default. Worse, the main Create PO button submitted every new purchase order straight into Pending Approval regardless. The result was a PO that appeared to save and then sat there, gated, with no way to release it and no way to switch the gate off.

We could have added a toggle. Instead we removed the workflow, because a feature nobody could knowingly enable was not earning the room it took up.

If you have purchase orders currently stuck in Pending Approval, they are no longer trapped. You can move them to draft, cancel them, or mark them as sent, same as any other PO. Creating a PO is now a single button that does exactly what it says.

Invoices: Tax Rates That Actually Save

Editing an invoice's tax rate looked like it worked. The field accepted your number, the save succeeded, and nothing changed — the rate never reached the invoice, and the tax and total stayed where they were.

That is fixed, and the totals now recalculate when you change the rate, so the tax amount and the invoice total follow it rather than lagging behind. Invoice date had the same silent-drop problem on edit and is fixed alongside it. Tax rates are now also checked before they are saved, so a malformed value is refused outright instead of being accepted.

Two more invoice fixes in the same area:

  • A reference on a new invoice now saves. If you typed a PO number while creating an invoice by hand, it was dropped. (It worked when the invoice came from a converted quote, which is why this took a while to pin down.)
  • You can clear a reference. Deleting a PO number and saving used to quietly put it back.

If you have edited an invoice's tax rate recently and the total looked wrong, this is why. Worth a second look at anything from the last few weeks.

A Search Box That Stops Fighting You

Search on the list pages — invoices, vendors, clients and the rest — had a habit of undoing you. You would type, the page would catch up with an older version of what you had typed, and your last few characters would vanish. Sometimes the box would stop responding altogether.

It took five separate fixes to fully close, because the first attempts each traded one version of the problem for another. Typing in search now keeps what you typed, filters stay put when you change several at once, and browser back and forward still work as expected.

Time Reports: The Daily Breakdown Works

Three fixes to the time report that shipped in the last release:

  • The Daily breakdown chart now has data in it. It was reading days back in a different time zone than it wrote them, so the buckets never lined up and the chart came back empty.
  • The default range is now Month to Date rather than Last 30 Days, and the preset buttons finally show which one is selected — previously nothing was highlighted, in any theme, so there was no way to tell.
  • All six KPI tiles explain themselves on hover.

There is also a new Standard billing filter in the Billing facet, for isolating ordinary hourly work — it excludes prepaid hours and fixed-fee work, both of which are billed on different terms from a client's normal hourly rate.

Quotes Show Their Purchase Orders

A quote detail page now carries a Purchase Orders panel listing every PO generated from that quote, with its number, status and date. On the quotes list, a small package icon appears next to the status of any quote that has one.

The quote's activity history also records a timestamped entry when a PO is generated from it, whichever route it was generated by — so the history answers "was a PO raised for this, and when" without you going looking.

Smaller Things

  • The new vendor button works. Creating or updating a vendor could fail with no feedback at all — no error, no banner, no navigation. The button looked dead. Failures now tell you what went wrong.
  • Help icons are keyboard reachable. The small help icons throughout the app could not be reached by keyboard unless they happened to link to an article. They can now.

Behind the Scenes

Support requests are more reliable. If an in-app support request fails to reach our internal tracking, that failure is now visible and can be retried rather than being lost, and the request itself is never discarded in the process.

Background jobs now raise an alarm when they fail. Scheduled work — token refreshes, expiry sweeps, cleanup — previously failed quietly. A failure now alerts us immediately rather than being discovered later.

This release also includes a reliability and security improvement to one internal endpoint, and a set of changes to how we apply database updates across accounts: those updates are now applied and independently verified automatically as part of every release, and anything that would remove data can no longer be applied without a person deliberately authorising it.

What You Should Notice

  • Purchase order approvals are gone. POs stuck in Pending Approval can be moved on.
  • Creating a PO is one button, and it no longer submits for approval behind your back.
  • Invoice tax rate and invoice date save correctly, and the totals follow.
  • A reference typed on a new invoice is kept, and can be cleared.
  • Search on list pages no longer swallows your keystrokes or freezes.
  • The Daily breakdown chart on time reports has data in it.
  • Time reports default to Month to Date, and the selected preset is visible.
  • A new Standard billing filter isolates ordinary hourly work.
  • Quotes show which purchase orders came from them, and when.
  • Failing to create a vendor now tells you why.

Nothing here is a new thing to learn. It is a list of places the app was not keeping its promises, and now does.
